Windows 10 / 11

Check Your Friend … x64-setup.exe

Other systems: macOS · Linux

First launch

The app is free and open — and not yet signed with a paid certificate. Your system will therefore warn you once:

  1. Windows (SmartScreen): click More info, then Run anyway. The installer needs no administrator rights.
  2. macOS: the first launch is blocked. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to “Check Your Friend”. (Right-click → Open no longer works since macOS 15.)
  3. Linux: make the AppImage executable (chmod +x) and start it, or install the .deb / .rpm package.

After installing, sign in with your Check Your Friend account. The app runs in the tray / menu bar; closing the window keeps it running.

Browser extension (optional)

Lets the desktop app tell websites apart (YouTube ≠ Moodle). It reports only the domain of the active tab to the app on your computer — no titles, no paths, never in private windows, and nothing to the internet.

  • Firefox: Firefox Add-ons (coming soon).
  • Microsoft Edge: Edge Add-ons (coming soon).
  • Chrome / Brave / Opera: Chrome Web Store (coming soon). Extension ID: ieinkoieoipihpkjepbkoehpjlapokll

In the desktop app, switch on “Use the browser extension” (Extension tab). Both switches — in the app and in the extension — must be on.
